Civil/Structural Consulting Engineer
Languages: English
Education: Bachelor’s Degree, P. Eng.
The Position: Intermediate Engineer
The Potential: Within 2 years to be promoted to Senior Engineer
Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.): Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) by a provincial or territorial association; Project Management PMP a big asset. Eligible for registration in Ontario.
Experience: Minimum 5 years experience, 10 years preferred
Area of Work Experience: Design, Drawing Review, Code and Standards Review, Quality Assurance and Control, Inspection of Facilities
Area of Specialization: Civil Engineering, Municipal Engineering, Site Engineering, Drainage and Storm Water Management, Basic Structural Engineering (wood, steel, reinforced concrete)
Work Setting: Small but expanding consulting engineering firm
Specific Skills: Supervise technicians and technologists and review and approve designs, calculations and cost estimates; Confer with clients and other members of the engineering team to determine project requirements; Plan and design civil projects such as buildings, structures, roads, water and waste management systems and drainage systems; Evaluate and recommend appropriate building and construction materials; interpret, review and approve survey and civil design work; Conduct field services for civil works; Ensure construction plans meet guidelines and specifications, building codes and other regulations; Conduct feasibility studies, economic analyses, able to interpret and integrate environmental impact studies, soils investigations, hydrogeological investigations; Prepare project estimates and review and evaluate tenders for construction projects; Manage projects
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: At times fast-paced environment; Ability to work under pressure; Attention to detail including spelling and grammar; Combination of sitting, standing, walking; Medium workload; Tight deadlines; Overtime may be required during peak season
Useful Computer and Technology Knowledge: AutoCAD; Revit; Civil 3D; Data analysis software; MS Office, Project Management Software; Structural software packages
Personal Suitability: Effective interpersonal skills; Accurate; Team player; Excellent oral communication; Excellent written communication; Sound judgement; Organized
